Petanque at Queenscliff

The sport of Petanque has joined Pickleball as one of the latest additions to the sports on offer at QBTC with the Bellarine Peninsula Petanque Club setting up its new home at QBTC.

The game of Petanque originated in France and is commonly referred to as the French version of Lawn Bowls and is also very similar to the Italian game called Bocce.

The game is played with steel "boules" about the size of a tennis ball and a wooden "jack" or "cochonnet".

The main difference between Petanque, bowls and bocce is that the boules are thrown in the air towards the cochonnet and the game is played on a gravel surface.

At QBTC we have a playing terrain that has 11 lanes called "pistes" and can accommodate up to 66 players at once.
